It’s Spring, But You Still Need to Repair Your Heater if Necessary

technician-looks-at-gas-furnaceThe changeover to spring doesn’t mean the permanent arrival of warm weather, no matter how much we’d like that. But warmer days are here, and the heater in your home will put in less and less work over the coming weeks until it finally turns off for the middle of the year, not coming back to work until fall.

But your heater still needs TLC in spring! If you have reason to believe your heater has a malfunction of any kind, don’t choose to “wait it out” until the warm weather arrives so you won’t have to worry about it. Have professionals repair the heater as soon as you can arrange for it. There are a number of reasons why prompt heating repair is necessary even with warm weather right over the horizon.

  • Safe operation: This is consideration #1. You likely have a natural gas furnace for your home (we say this because gas furnaces are the most common type of residential heating system), and any gas-powered appliance has the potential to create safety concerns if it isn’t kept in working order. Not all malfunctions in a gas furnace can lead to safety issues, but that’s not something you want to gamble on! Running a furnace within safety parameters requires prompt repairs.
  • Avoid emergency breakdowns: Cold snaps can trick us at any time during the spring. April is notorious for that. You don’t want to have a wobbly and unreliable heating system when one of those cold days arrives. But if you don’t have the system repair when needed, there’s a good chance you’ll have a failed heater when you need it the most. Always stay prepared.
  • Prevent energy waste: A heater that’s running with a repair problem will drain more power to run than it should. There’s no reason to pay more for the last few weeks of heating—not when you can have professionals quickly repair the system.
  • You’ll find out if you need a replacement: When a heater starts to malfunction, it may signal that it needs to be replaced. During repairs, a technician can identify if the system is on its last legs and should have a replacement during spring.
  • Longevity: Getting a heater to last a long time, living past its warranty, requires taking good care of it. This is more than scheduling routine maintenance each fall. It’s also about repairs done quickly so they can’t cause extra wear that will shorten the system’s life.
  • Fall failure: If you have your heater go into summer hibernation with a lingering malfunction, you’re putting it at risk of not turning on at all when you need it on the first cold day of fall. Have repairs done now, when they’re easier and you don’t need the heater as much, rather than during when the cold is about to return for good.
