Is Your Air Conditioner Able to Handle the Last of the Heat?

Monday, October 16th, 2017

thermometer-going-redJudging by the history of weather here in the Triangle Area, we likely have some heat left at the end of the year. Although you should be preparing your household heating system for the winter (start by scheduling routine maintenance through our Comfort Club), this isn’t a time to take the air conditioning system for granted. It’s tempting to simply leave any issues with the AC alone, thinking you can have them dealt with next year when it’s time to get ready for warm weather again.

What you need to ask yourself now is whether the AC can deal with a final heat wave. If it can’t, or you have any reason to believe it has a malfunction, we recommend calling us right away to have our technicians look into it and fix any problems. You don’t want to delay with air conditioning repair in Cary, NC or elsewhere in our service area, no matter how close to colder weather we are.

Ice on the Air Conditioner: No, It Shouldn’t Be There

Monday, June 12th, 2017

air-conditioning-unitHere’s a question we often hear from customers. In fact it’s a question any quality HVAC company will hear multiple times:

Hey, there’s ice on my air conditioner’s evaporator coil. Is that … supposed to happen?

It’s a good question. That people think to ask it in the first place is good sign. It shows they have an understanding that, even though air conditioners blow out chilled air when they’re running, ice is probably not a part of the cooling process. Or at least, it shouldn’t be.

This instinct is correct: when ice starts to appear on the indoor coil of a central air conditioner (i.e. along the evaporator coil), it means something is wrong. In most cases, you’ll need to call for air conditioning repair in Raleigh, NC or elsewhere in order to fix the problem—and sooner, rather than later.

Humidity and Your Air Conditioner in Summer

Monday, May 15th, 2017

ac-condensersHumidity and heat during the summer can combine to make what might otherwise be a pleasantly warm North Carolina day into it a tough slog for almost anybody. The reason for this is that the increased moisture in the air is something like putting on an extra layer of clothing: it traps more heat inside the body, making temperatures feel warmer. So an 80°F day will feel like it’s actually 90°F. When relative humidity rises above 60%—a common event around here—the discomfort kicks in.

Late Season Heating Repair and March Madness for Your AC

Monday, March 6th, 2017

girl-welcomes-springWe started off March with a pleasantly warm day, and then the temperatures took a dip. This is the standard for this month, however. There’s a reason that nobody can keep that “lambs and lions” proverb about March straight: is it “in like a lion, out like a lamb” or “in like a lamb, out like a lion”? Does one mean a prediction about the other? Hard to tell, because March is a devilish month for predicting the weather. The transition from winter to spring is a tumultuous time, so we’re going to take our advice not from a farmers’ almanac proverb, but from Hamlet: “The readiness is all!”

Here is how our professional HVAC services in Zebulon, NC and elsewhere in the Triangle Area can help you stay ready for March Madness.
